Australia-UK Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Competition - Online Marketplace

Find partners for UK-Australia renewable hydrogen projects.

Welcome to the virtual networking space to assist on business-partner matching for the Australia-UK Renewable Hydrogen Innovation programs, jointly organised by Innovate UK and Australia’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

The UK and Australian governments are establishing a joint funding call on renewable hydrogen to support companies to collaborate bilaterally on renewable hydrogen projects. This joint funding call will support research, development and demonstration (RD&D) projects in renewable hydrogen and its applications to decarbonise industry and transport sectors.

Projects must advance the development of clean hydrogen or derivative technologies in any of the following areas;

  • low cost, low carbon hydrogen production
  • integration of hydrogen production with renewables
  • safe and efficient hydrogen storage and distribution
  • hydrogen utilisation to decarbonise the transport (heavy land transport and maritime), industry and power sectors
  • hydrogen business models
  • low carbon hydrogen carriers, such as ammonia and methanol.

The UK and Australia are working closely together to decarbonise our economies and build economic resilience to the impacts on climate change. The UK and Australia are natural partners on clean hydrogen, its derivatives and hydrogen applications used to decarbonise industry and transport. There are strong complementarities on RD&D capabilities, technology transfer, policies, market development and public-private financing for such projects.

The joint funding call will help advance the pace and scale of technological innovation in the global transition whilst supporting bilateral ambitions to meet industrial decarbonisation targets that could lead to commercial opportunities. The joint funding call will help foster greater collaboration between Australian and British businesses on clean hydrogen technologies and deployment.

UK registered organisations must apply to the UK-Australia Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Competition and will be funded by Innovate UK. Australian organisations must apply to the Australia-UK Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Partnerships Program via the Business Grants Hub and will be funded by DCCEEW. Your proposal must include at least one partner from the UK and one partner from Australia.

In applying to respective grants programs, you are entering into a competitive process. The joint funding call will close for applications in January 2024.

Information sessions about the joint funding call and how to apply will be held in December. Australian applicants can register for information sessions about the Program here.
